The Values of Stories; Stories of Values: Why We Do What We Do?

The latest research shows that we are fundamentally a story-driven species. Our perception and understanding of the world are inextricably tied to our imagination of the world and help shape the careers we choose. And the most important thing we imagine? Our values, which are not defined through syllogisms or spreadsheets, formulas or algorithms, but through stories. We strive to emulate our heroes and mentors, and we pattern our lives after theirs.

Through an examination of classic children’s stories, author Ken Liu will guide us to discover a set of values that are foundational to the story we live and tell. Everything we do is tied to this act of collective and individual storytelling, in which we live out our truest values and become heroes to those who come after us.

Please join this lively conversation as we discuss:

  • What are the values important to you?
  • How does your work fit into your story?
  • How can we reimagine a life in the law as part of this grandest of epics?
