About Ionuț Rus
Ionut Rus is an Associate in the firm’s International Arbitration Group and Global Projects Disputes Practice.
Ionut’s practice focuses on international investment and commercial arbitration. He has experience advising and representing States and private entities involved in disputes and across different industries and jurisdictions, including real estate, shipping, port operations and international sale of goods. Ionut has also advised a non-governmental organisation on a human rights claim.
Prior to joining Freshfields in December 2022, Ionut has trained with several leading international law firms in London and Paris.
He speaks English, Romanian and German.
Recent work
- Acting for the Government of Albania in a multi-million dollar ICSID arbitration against a foreign investor under the UK, US - Albanian bilateral investment treaties arising from the termination of a concession for port operations.
- Acting for Alverley and German in a multi-million dollar ICSID arbitration against Romania under the Cyprus-Romania bilateral investment treaty arising from the sequestration of a plot of land intended for real estate developments.*
- Acting for an Egypt-based commercial agent in a multi-million dollar ICC arbitration proceeding on a claim against a crane manufacturer for the termination of a commercial agency agreement under Hungarian Law.*
- Advising a major European chemical company on the termination a sale of goods contract under English law with a Russian entity due to economic sanctions.*
- Advising a non-governmental entity in relation to human-rights claims against a State for the indiscriminate bombardment of civilians under the European Convention of Human Rights.*
