About Alastair Mordaunt

Alastair has more than 20 years of experience as a private practitioner and regulator across three continents giving him a deep understanding of working effectively with regulatory regimes to achieve successful outcomes in transactional and investigatory matters.

As a partner in our UK antitrust, competition and trade practice, Alastair assists clients before UK, EU and Asian regulators across the full range of competition-related work, including merger control and foreign investment, cartels and abuse of dominance issues. He has previously worked in the firm’s offices in Brussels, Hong Kong and Washington DC.  

Alastair also co-heads a highly integrated team of specialists who are navigating the evolving foreign investments law landscape. Our multijurisdictional approach is often called upon by clients to solve their most complex investment regulatory consents across jurisdictions.  

Alastair’s government experience includes four years as a senior official at the UK’s competition authority, the Office of Fair Trading. In addition, he was recently a non-governmental adviser to the Hong Kong Competition Commission and for several years to the UK’s competition authority.

Alastair is a frequent speaker at international conferences on competition and foreign investment law, and has authored and edited a numerous publications on these issues. He is an Officer of the International Bar Association’s Antitrust Section and until recently co-chaired its Mergers Working Group. He is ranked as a leading lawyer in the legal directories for antitrust and foreign investment.

  • Li & Fung and Temasek on the merger control aspects of the US$3.6bn sale of LF Logistics to Maersk and on Li & Fung’s long-term strategic partnership with Maersk. 

  • CK Hutchison on the merger control aspects of its landmark US$6 billion merger of its Indonesian telecommunications business, Hutchison 3 Indonesia, with Indosat Tbk, a subsidiary of Ooredoo Group.

  • ESR Cayman Limited on its landmark acquisition of ARA Asset Management for US$5.2 billion.

  • The London Stock Exchange Group on global coordination, regulatory engagement and substantive strategy for its US$27bn transformational acquisition of Refinitiv, one of the leading global providers of financial markets data and trading venues.

  • Several MNCs on antitrust investigations before the Hong Kong Competition Commission and other Asian jurisdictions.
