About Prof. Dr. Juliane Hilf

Juliane heads our Disputes Resolution Regulatory Group in Continental Europe and is a member of the Global Sustainability Leadership group.

She is known in the market for advising clients on new regulatory developments and helping them understand and shape legal frameworks as they emerge as well as to assess associated legal risks. Clients benefit from her 25+ years of experience in dealing with regulators, policymakers and other stakeholders in Europe.

Juliane is a regulatory and risk expert and focusses on sustainability matters, including sustainability governance, ESG strategy and sustainability reporting in Europe and globally. She also regularly advises clients on foreign investment rules in cross-border transactions. 

She is recognized by JUVE for her ESG and environmental law know-how as well as her regulatory expertise in the automotive sector as well as by Handelsblatt Best Lawyers for gaming law, environmental law and public law. She was the firm's global environment partner for over a decade and served on the Partnership Council. She is also country partner for Israel.

Juliane speaks German and English.

Recent work

  • Advising US multinationals on ESG governance and sustainability reporting, including CSRD, CSDDD, CBAM and EUDR
  • Advising HOCHTIEF on its acquisition (alongside ACS and Atlantia) of toll-road operator Abertis. Read more about the deal in our case study.
  • Advising KfW on its acquisition of 20% in 50Hertz, 25.1% in Hensoldt and on the stabilization of SEFE and Uniper on foreign investment.
  • Advising Volkswagen Group on its global defence relating to Diesel emission issues on regulatory and consumer protection law issues in 50+ jurisdictions
  • Advising large industrial clients in relation to alleged misuse of EU funds before the European Investment Bank  
  • Advising EY on regulatory issues in relation to the Wirecard case
  • Advising Betfair on its market entry into Germany on regulatory gambling law, representing the client in parliamentary hearings as well as before national courts and the ECJ.
  • Representing the Federal Republic of Germany before the ECJ on toll road for heavy vehicles  
  • Advising stiftung elektro-altgeräte register on all questions concerning the implementation of the waste electrical and electronic equipment directive in Germany
  • Advising CVC on the acquistion of the Tipico Group relating to regulatory questions of gambling law.
