Nathaniel was appointed BBVA Chief US Economist in 2004 to help the group manage its expansion strategy in the United States. His main responsibilities are conducting analyses of macroeconomic variables, monetary policy and regional and industry trends. Previously, Nathaniel worked at BBVA Bancomer as director of financial and banking research. Before joining BBVA, he worked at Republic Bank, the World Bank, Mexico’s Ministry of Education and ATTIS. He is a member of the American Bankers Association Economic Advisory Committee.
Nathaniel’s research has been cited by various media outlets in the United States, and his op-eds have been published in several countries. He has also appeared as a commentator on TV and provided testimony to Texas’ state senate. Nathaniel has been recognized as one of the top forecasters for 10-year Treasury yields, the unemployment rate and nonfarm payrolls. Nathaniel obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in economics at ITAM and the University of Warwick, respectively.
